About the InnThis Queen Anne Victorian mansion was built in 1885 by Jeremy Rockwell, the founder of the town of Hadley, as a wedding present for his granddaughter, Catherine, who married Meyers Van Zandt, a NY financier active in the timber trade in the Adirondacks. It became alternately a sanitarium, and a boarding house, and ultimately an inn called High Clere in the early 1980s. It became a Saratoga Bed & Breakfast in 1988 when it became Saratoga Rose Inn & Restaurant at which time major refurbishing took place. The adjacent Carriage House, built in 1994, increased the number of guest rooms to six. The Victorian Gardens, planted in 1996, offer a tranquil retreat for the guests of Saratoga Rose. After boating on Lake George, or antiquing in Saratoga Springs, select a shaded bench amid the ferns, flowering shrubs, and two koi ponds, or in the gazebo for a quiet afternoon of reading or conversation. The gardens have been the setting for many Saratoga weddings. In June, 2004 Claude Bélanger of Québec City and Richard Ferrugio of NYC acquired Saratoga Rose, and they have begun upgrading the facilities and amenities throughout the Mansion, Carriage House, and grounds. Along with their backgrounds in design, and service, come their commitment to the highest quality and their attention to the smallest detail. Their Restaurant, which is open to guests and the general public, completes the Saratoga Rose experience. For fifteen years Richard, who owned and operated The Food Gallery Inc until 1991, was one of New York City's most respected caterers with clients ranging from the New York City Ballet, to Steinway & Sons, to the Mayor's Office of Special Events. Richard says "Good food is about balancing flavors in ways that excite your palate. Good wines play an integral role in this balance. It is my passion to create meals that are unique Fine Dining experiences whether for breakfast for our guests, for dinner in our restaurant, or for those once-in-a lifetime events." The Inn's restaurant seats 90 in the four Victorian dining rooms on the main floor of the Mansion. During the warmer months dining is also offered on the lantern-lit veranda, and cocktails and hors d'oeuvre can be enjoyed in the gardens. Richard is also a painter in oils on canvas with almost 100 works in collections throughout North America and Europe. Several of his paintings are hung throughout the Inn. Saratoga Rose Inn and Restaurant offers premier accommodations which include full breakfasts. With notice, meals can be adjusted for vegetarians and those with Diabetes and Celiac disease. Two night room and dinner packages are also available through most of the year. Please check the restaurant Special Events and accommodation Packages for details or place a call to Claude and Richard who will be pleased to describe what has been scheduled at the Rose for the season of your choice. Saratoga Rose Inn & Restaurant..."a winning combination of ambiance, culinary offerings, and hospitality." - Lake George Mirror |
